Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Conflict Management Styles
Abstract
The present study was sought to examine the role of emotional intelligence in the perdition of obliging, compromising, dominating, integrating, and avoiding conflict management style among university students. The hypotheses of the study were included “emotional intelligence will positively predict compromising, dominating, and integrating conflict management style” and “emotional intelligence will negatively predict obliging and avoidant conflict management style among university students”. Emotional Intelligence Scale (Wong & Law, 2002) and Dutch Test for Conflict Handling (DeVliert & Kabanoff, 1990) were used to collect the information. Sample of the present study consisted of 300 university students. Purposive convenient sampling technique was used for data collection. Linear Regression analysis was applied to test the hypotheses. The results indicated that emotional intelligence has significant positive effect on compromising, dominating, and integrating conflict management style whereas emotional intelligence has non-significant effect on obliging and avoiding conflict management style.
