Translation of Aggression Scale into Urdu Language: The Role of Demographics in Predicting Adolescents’ Aggression
Abstract
The objectives of the present study were twofold: first, to translate the aggression scale into Urdu language and establish its reliability; and second, to assess the role of personal, social and familial demographic characteristics in predicting aggression in adolescents. After accomplishment of standard translation process, the reliability estimate of Urdu translated version on a sample of 100 adolescents with mean age of 15.7 (SD=1.1) was made. The non-significant discrepancy and a high correlation between mean scores of two versions suggested that the two forms of the scales were comparable. The findings showed satisfactory internal consistency (α = .77), testretest reliability (r = .89), and Guttmann split-half reliability coefficient (r = .86). Moreover, the results of multiple regression analysis indicate personal characteristics to be the significant predictors of aggression whereas familial characteristics are found to be insignificant predictors of aggression. Furthermore, the results of linear regression analysis indicate socio-economic status as significant predictor of aggression in adolescents. The implications of the findings and future avenues are suggested.
